Myth of the West is a collective exhibition representing inspired, challenging, inventive ideas and interpretations of western culture: past, present or future; real or make-believe. There are nine distinct installations and exhibits displayed throughout the airport by nine different artists and organizations that present new perspectives on subjects pertaining to their own mythologies and/or the American West. This year-long exhibition is intended to create an imaginative and interactive experience for airport visitors.
The goal of this exhibition is to present meaningful and relevant installations and displays that respond to one theme throughout the airport. Selected by a guest curator, the nine participants chosen based on their creativity, unique use of media, and relevance to the theme: The Myth of the West. |
San Diego International Airport
Terminal 2 East, Post-Security
The airport shares the airfield with the least tern for use as a nesting habitat. This provides the birds with easy access to a nearby food source at the San Diego Bay. The airport’s Environmental Affairs Department works alongside the San Diego Zoological Society to protect the California least tern’s nesting habitat. The critical nesting site is considered to be one of the most productive least tern nesting sites in Southern California.
